Introduction to Ben Hogan Golf Cards

Welcome to the Ben Hogan Golf Card site. This site is about the sports (trading) cards that have a connection to Ben Hogan. This site will be updated as old cards / information surface and new cards / information are issued.

The history of Ben Hogan golf cards goes back over 70 years, with his first card appearing in the 1949 set "Sports Champions" from the Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago. For the next 50 years, to around the time of Mr. Hogan's death in 1997, there were less than 40 different Ben Hogan golf trading cards released (not including different languages or variations of the Sportscaster cards). Some of these were from licensed sets, but many were not.

In the later part of the 1990's there was a revival of sport card collecting. The Upper Deck Company released several sets of cards, many which contained Hogan cards. The Panini Company and a new company called SportKings quickly followed with a lot of Ben Hogan cards in sets that they released. During this time period there were many "custom-made" Hogan cards hitting the market as well. Many cards used hand drawings and some made use of actual pictures of Mr. Hogan. There have been 33 years with no Hogan card releases at all, especially before 2000.

As of June 15 2022, I have 330 entries in my Ben Hogan golf card database. I have 177 of these in my personal collection. Many of the Hogan cards that I do not have are 1 of 1's and find their way into other collections and stay there for long periods of time. Also, many of the Hogan cards from the past decade have other athletes on the same card. So, you are up against the collectors of those athletes as well.

This site was not made to be fancy in any way what-so-ever. It is just straight forward in its presentation and information. It is here to help fellow Ben Hogan golf card collectors in their search to add to their collection.
